Rhino/Septoplasty: Before and After Photos

Birmingham, Alabama

Nose surgery can be done with local anesthetic and a sedative, or with general anesthesia. An “open” procedure is one where incisions are made in the columella – the fleshy tissue between the nostrils – as well as one or more made from inside the nose. A “closed” procedure has incisions only from within the nose. In both cases, scars are negligible.

Many nasal features can be changed. A Septoplasty works on the septum, that hard division between the nostrils which ends in the columella. A deviated septum which is impairing your breathing can be corrected in a procedure that also enhances or reduces the nose’s overall size or changes its contours. To change the nose’s shape, the bone and cartilage are reduced or modified. Recovery takes about two weeks, until the stuffing, splints and other dressings can be removed. In 2006, rhinoplasty was the second most popular cosmetic surgery, with 307,000 people having it done.
