Labiaplasty Preparation

During a consultation with Dr. Core, you will receive detailed instruction on preparing for your labia reduction surgery. While each patient is unique, generally, you will need to stop smoking and taking medications that may thin your blood. These may include ibuprofen, aspirin, any herbal supplements, and blood-thinning prescription medications. You will need to remove any hair from the area in order to allow for greater visualization of your labia. Also, you will be directed to arrange for a trusted adult to drive you home after the procedure. If there are any directives specific to your case, Dr. Core will let you know during your pre-operative appointments.

What Is Involved In My Labiaplasty?

On the day of your labiaplasty, you will meet with Dr. Core to discuss any concerns and questions you may have. The doctor will review your treatment plan with you and make sure you are comfortable with your decision to move forward with labiaplasty at this time. Once you are in the operating room, you will be provided with the appropriate anesthetic to keep you comfortable throughout the procedure. Your labia will be marked with a surgical marker that will help Dr. Core identify the incision sites and areas he should pay special attention to during the surgery.

Dr. Core will perform your labiaplasty in accordance with your procedure plan. This plan will take your unique needs, anatomy and desires into consideration. The wedge approach to labiaplasty will allow Dr. Core to remove a pie-shaped wedge from the labial tissue on each side. Women who opt for this approach usually desire a more natural look to their labia as the outer contours remain untouched.

Trim Technique

In the trim technique, Dr. Core will directly remove the excess tissue by gently reducing the outer edges of the labia. This approach provides women with a neater appearance to their vagina. It will also address the darker outer edges of the labia, creating a more aesthetically pleasing look to the vulva.

Clitoral Hood Reduction

A clitoral hood reduction removes any excess tissue around the clitoris. This procedure can help address problems with hygiene, sexual stimulation, and discomfort. The incisions from the labiaplasty will be extended toward the clitoris and the interfering tissue will be excised.

Post Surgery for Labiaplasty

Following labiaplasty, you will experience some discomfort that can be relieved with pain medication. We recommend you rest for a couple of days and wear loose fitting pants to make you more comfortable. Additionally, you will need to wait 24 hours following your procedure before showering. Baths, hot tubs, swimming, and sexual intercourse should be avoided for about 6 weeks. Dr. Core may direct you to not use tampons during your next menstrual cycle in order to allow proper healing of the area.

Will a labiaplasty affect my sensation?

Labiaplasty is not intended to impact the sensitivity of the external genitalia.
