Are You Playing "Google Roulette" With Your Plastic Surgeon?

Our plastic surgery practice encourages research, but search results alone should never decide who operates on you. Online articles and ads can be helpful starting points, yet they rarely give the full story.

As a member of the Ethics Committee for the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, I reviewed dozens of websites that boasted titles like "world famous" or "internationally recognized." Nearly 80% made those claims, even though only a small fraction of surgeons are truly invited to lecture at major meetings. Submitting a paper and having it accepted is not the same as being asked to speak.

I have also been offered so-called awards that turned out to be plaques you simply purchase. When you see dubious badges such as "Patient's Choice" without a legitimate sponsoring organization, you may be looking at marketing rather than merit.

Reviews deserve the same scrutiny. Family members, employees, or even paid services can post glowing comments, while dissatisfied users are more likely to leave negative ones that may not tell the full clinical story. I once met a patient who blamed her surgeon for a complication caused by her own chain smoking. If she had shared that review online, readers would have missed the real cause.

So how do you choose wisely? Start with verified credentials, including board certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, fellowship training, and years in practice. Ask your primary care doctor for recommendations, speak with trusted friends, and most importantly, meet the surgeon in person to gauge communication style and comfort level.

If you would like to review our qualifications and approach in detail, schedule a consultation with Dr. Core. You will get clear answers, transparent credentials, and a personalized plan without the guesswork of Google roulette.
