Staggering Rise in Non-Surgical Cosmetic Procedures – Could Prevention be the Key?
We are moving into an era of preventative medicine, finding that taking care of your body now can save you thousands of dollars in the long run. Could this also be true for your skin?
According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, of the total number of cosmetic procedures performed last year, 83% were non-surgical. Non-surgical procedures consist of anything from Botox injections and dermal fillers to laser treatments – essentially, procedures intended to erase the signs of aging. The majority of those procedures, 70.1% to be exact, were performed on patients between the ages of 35 and 64. This generation was not allowed today’s latest skincare developments which aim at protecting the skin against harmful UV rays, as well as preventing aging with the use of retinol, an agent that causes new collagen to be formed in damaged and aged skin.
Dr. Zein Obagi, skincare guru, has revolutionized skincare with his innovative skincare line ZO® Skin Health and ZO® Medical. Featured on Dr.OZ and in such magazines as Glamour, US Weekly, and InStyle, ZO® Skin Health and ZO® Medical draw upon plant stem cell components with antioxidants to generate unique formulations in a multi-delivery system that has not been available until now. Regardless of gender, age, or skin type, ZO® Skin Health and ZO® Medical were designed to deliver preventative skincare solutions that support daily skin health and protection from the environment. Seen with Ossential Radical Night Repair Plus, this anti-aging product offers patients five times more retinol than any other over the counter anti-aging product, the highest concentration on the market.
Prevention is key. Dr. Obagi believes skin should be improved on a cellular level, with prevention and medical treatment coexisting and working with each other. Dr. Obagi recommends that aging prevention should start before 25 or 30, and disease prevention should start as a teenager. People between ages 35 and 64, the majority of those receiving cosmetic procedures, were unaware of prevention and did not have the same skincare innovations we have today.
Dr. Obagi’s Ossential Daily Power Defense takes prevention to another level.. It uses DNA repair enzymes to attach directly to your own DNA molecules to repair oxidative damage caused by UV exposure, as well as time-release retinol, enzymes and antioxidants to not only repair damaged cells but to protect against any future harm.
Plastic surgeons are taking note of these innovative breakthroughs. Dr. Grady Core, renowned plastic surgeon, and co-developer of the endoscopic browlift and other related minimally invasive cosmetic surgery techniques, plans to announce his affiliation with ZO® Skin Health and ZO® Medical at the Birmingham Launch event on Tuesday, June 18. ZO® Skin Health and ZO® Medical will allow Dr. Core to provide the latest in skincare technology, giving his patients preventative measures as well as more desired results and continued maintenance after cosmetic procedures.
