What is a Body Lift?
It is common to have large amounts of excess, sagging skin following a major weight loss with no ability to return to the new body size. A body lift procedure removes this skin and is typically performed on the arms, stomach, sides, back, buttocks and thighs.
Body lifts are performed as either upper body and lower body lifts.
Benefits of a Body Lift
A body lift not only enhances a new body shape, but it also provides people with the following benefits:
- Removes excess skin
- Prevents skin infections that occur because of the folds
- Improves self-image
- Loss of additional weight caused by excess skin
Who is a Good Candidate for a Body Lift?
When anyone loses a lot of weight, it is common to have excess skin that sags and does not have the elasticity to conform to the body’s new shape. A body lift is often recommended to remove the excess amounts of skin. It may not provide the contour many seek with individual procedures, but it removes the excess skin that causes self-consciousness.

How Do I Prepare for My Body Lift?
A body lift requires more preparation than most surgeries because several areas are corrected during one surgery. Once you have consulted with Dr. Core and scheduled your procedure, we provide you with detailed instructions to prepare for the surgery. This includes ensuring you have assistance at home following your surgery.
What is Involved with My Body Lift?
During a body lift procedure, multiple body contouring procedures are performed during one surgery. Depending on the areas being corrected, incisions are made to lift and tighten the skin removing any excess skin.
A body lift typically takes about five or six hours to complete and is usually performed under general anesthesia.
What to Expect After a Body Lift
During your consultation, we also provide you with detailed post-operative instructions to aid in your recovery.
The recovery from a body lift may take longer than an individual procedure. Once the surgery is complete, we fit you with a compression garment for support and to minimize swelling. There is often some discomfort that is managed with pain medication. We recommend you take a couple of weeks off work or away from daily activities to rest and allow the body to heal. All strenuous activities must be avoided for at least a month until the incisions have fully healed.
When Will I See the Results from My Body Lift?
The final results of a body lift can take about three months to reveal themselves. Over time the scars are greatly diminished making it possible to wear most any style of clothing.
How Much Does a Body Lift Cost in Birmingham?
A body lift varies in terms of cost based on the selected areas to be corrected as well as the extent of those areas. During a consultation, we can discuss the cost with you along with our payment and financing options through CareCredit®.
