What is a Mini Tummy Tuck?
A partial abdominoplasty, also called a mini tummy tuck, is performed on people who have a small amount of excess skin and muscle laxity in the lower abdomen. It is often the preferred technique for people who have lost a significant amount of weight but still have sagging skin that has lost its elasticity.
Benefits of a Mini Tummy Tuck
A mini tummy tuck targets the lower abdomen and offers the following benefits:
- Less recovery and downtime
- Leaves the belly button intact
- Creates a smooth, lean abdomen
- Restores a positive self-image
Who is a Good Candidate for a Mini Tummy Tuck?
The best candidates for a mini tummy tuck are those in good physical shape but who still have a small “pooch” in their lower abdomen.
A mini tummy tuck is not a substitute for a healthy diet and exercise regimen, rather it enhances the results of that lifestyle.
How Do I Prepare for My Mini Tummy Tuck?
To prepare for a mini-tummy tuck, you are provided with detailed pre-op instructions during a consultation. At that time, Dr. Core also evaluates your abdominal area to ensure a mini tummy tuck is the best option to achieve the look you want.
How Is A Mini Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) Performed?
For years, Dr. Grady Core has been one of the country’s leading teaching cosmetic plastic surgeons and is considered an innovator in the field of cosmetic plastic surgery. During a mini tummy tuck, Dr. Core will make a small transverse incision just above your pubic area of about six to eight inches in length. Then, a small amount of skin is removed, and the area is liposuctioned. A small amount of undermining is done below the umbilicus, and the muscles are re-tightened with sutures in the lower abdominal midline. To prevent the buildup of tissue fluid in the pocket, a small drain is placed for approximately eight to 10 days. Typically, patients return to full activity in two weeks. This procedure is best for patients who have minimal excess skin laxity of the lower abdomen and/or minimal laxity of the abdominal muscles.
What to Expect After a Mini Tummy Tuck
The recovery and healing from a mini tummy tuck takes less time than a full abdominoplasty.
While you can go back to work and daily activities within a few days, activity should be light to let the incisions heal. After two to three weeks, you may return to your normal daily routine.
When Will I See the Results of My Mini Tummy Tuck?
The results from partial abdominoplasty are typically visible within a few weeks once the incisions have healed and the swelling and bruising have greatly diminished. As long as your healthy lifestyle is maintained, the results can be expected to last for years.
