What Is a Thigh Lift?
A thigh lift is a surgical solution that addresses loose, sagging skin along the upper legs. By gently removing unsightly fat deposits and redundant skin, a thigh lift can contour your physique and enhance your appearance. Clothes fit more pleasingly, moving feels more comfortable, and thighs become slimmer and proportional with the rest of the lower body. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Grady Core at Alabama’s Core Plastic Surgery in Brirmingham, AL to help you achieve the look you desire. You can contact us online or call (205) 397-2100.
About The Surgery
A thigh lift is a body contouring procedure that Dr. Core performs to help dramatically reduce sagging skin. Loose or sagging skin around the thighs is a common problem following significant weight loss. This is a problem with skin laxity, not excess fat, so patients cannot correct it with diet and exercise alone. Recipients enjoy a smooth, even contour along the thighs.
The thigh lift works by eliminating excess skin and tissue that is overstretched and left along the thighs following massive weight loss. Dr. Core uses a discrete incision made in your body’s natural creases to reshape the underlying tissue of the thigh and reduce excess skin. Once the excess skin is removed, your incisions are closed, revealing the tighter, firmer shape of your legs.
Your thigh lift procedure is personalized based on your condition and specific goals. Dr. Core is experienced in body contouring procedures and takes the necessary time to ensure a natural-looking result.
Thigh Lift Options
Inner Thigh Lift
Every time you walk, your inner thighs brush up against each other. This sensation can become irritable and even painful if the dimensions of the upper legs displease you. By reshaping the inner thighs, Dr. Core can provide a marked functional and aesthetic improvement. An inner thigh lift focuses on the skin and tissue near the knees, bringing a striking symmetry to the overall look of the legs.
Bilateral Thigh Lift
Many patients complain about the appearance of their outer thighs and/or the front of their legs. They may hide their features under cumbersome dresses or oversized pants. A bilateral thigh lift provides cosmetic relief to those with drooping skin in visible places. By redraping the skin to accentuate the outer thighs, Dr. Core transforms the silhouette.
Medial Thigh Lift
One of the most popular procedures is the medial thigh lift. Dr. Core begins by concealing an incision strategically along the natural crease of the groin and buttocks. This allows him proper access to remove unwanted protrusions, rejoining the skin for a taut, lifted look and feel.
To discuss which thigh lift technique works best for your shape, contact our office in Birmingham, Alabama at your earliest convenience.
When evaluating a patient for thigh rejuvenation, a critical assessment must be made of the quality, location, and degree and extent of skin excess. Dr. Core will walk you through the thigh lift process to empower you with the data you need to make an informed decision. Our goal is to enhance the upper leg region in order to complement each patient’s unique contours. During your consultation, you will be encouraged to ask any questions you may have about incision placement, the duration of the procedure, and how the improvements will affect your thighs. Dr. Core and his associates will provide you with detailed instructions tailored to your anatomy and aesthetic goals. Please follow these directions carefully.
In general, it is advisable to quit smoking for at least a month prior to your thigh lift surgery. Dr. Core will write any necessary prescriptions well in advance of your procedure to give you ample time to pick up your medications. During your consultation, be prepared to share your medical history so that we can discuss any potential interactions with your current prescriptions.

Thigh Lift Procedure
On the day of your surgery, you will be made to feel right at home in our Birmingham location. Dr. Core will meet with you to review the thigh lift process one last time to answer any remaining questions. He will also mark your skin to indicate the placement of your incisions. You will receive the appropriate anesthesia to keep you safe and comfortable throughout the procedure. Thigh lift surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia, which means that you will sleep during your procedure. Once the process is complete, your thighs will be dressed with a compression garment to facilitate the healing process. You will be taken to the recovery room, where a medical professional will monitor your progress immediately following the thigh lift surgery. As you wake up from your anesthesia, you will be assessed to make sure you can resume your restful recovery from the comfort of your home.
You will be released into the care of a loved one, who will drive you home after your thigh lift surgery. This type of procedure is outpatient surgery, which means that you will be able to leave the same day. Your caregiver should be prepared to provide assistance and attention in the first 24 to 48 hours following the thigh lift procedure. Please do not shower or bathe for a couple of days after surgery. You may notice some minor bruising and swelling along the thighs, which is normal. The side effects are temporary and should subside within the first week.
Dr. Core will schedule a post-op appointment to remove any drains or sutures and will give you more specific aftercare instructions in person.
After Thigh Lift
While most thigh lift recipients do not experience any serious complications, all surgical procedures carry some degree of risk. The possible complications associated with thigh lift surgery include numbness, scarring, and infection, but Dr. Core will explain how his expertise helps minimize these risks.
Please expect to take at least a week off work to facilitate a successful recovery. You can resume most activities after a span of 4-6 weeks, but all cases vary. Your body needs time to adjust to the contours of your trim, sleek thighs, so please do not rush the healing process.

Look and Feel Your Best
A thigh lift is designed to contour away excess skin along the upper legs, but it may not address all of your unique needs. If you struggle with bulky fat stores, you may also require liposuction. The gentle removal of fat cells can accentuate the achievements you have made through significant weight loss.
The doctor prides himself on customizing the proper procedure for each individual. Contact Core Plastic Surgery at (205) 397-2100 to discuss your cosmetic and wellness goals so that we can create the best strategy for you.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is a thigh lift?
A thighlift is a surgical solution that addresses loose, sagging skin along the upper legs by gentlyremoving unsightly fat deposits and redundant skin
Are there different types of thigh lifts?
Yes, there are three different types of thigh lift: the bilateral lift, medial lift, and inner lift. The type of lift that will work best depends on your goals and current condition. If you are looking to enhance skin elasticity from age or significant weight loss, then an inner lift may be your best option. Bilateral lifts will benefit patients with excess skin on the upper or outer portions of the thighs. A medial lift works best for patients who have had extreme weight loss and now have excess skin on the upper portions of the inner thigh.
Am I a good candidate for thigh lift surgery?
You are the only person who can answer this question accurately. Your body is unlike anyone else’s, and your thighs may or may not reflect the shape you ultimately desire. If excess skin obscures your natural good looks, then a thigh lift may be the optimal solution to your issues. A good candidate should be at or near their ideal body weight. The skin along the thigh area must be free of infections to ensure that the incisions do not cause any health complications.
Is a thigh lift permanent?
Nothing in life is truly permanent. The skin evolves and matures constantly, but a thigh lift can set back the clock by removing sagging excess tissue. After receiving a thigh lift, your upper legs will enjoy more pleasing contours. The results of a thigh lift may be disrupted by weight fluctuations, as increased fat reserves can stretch the skin anew. Please inform Dr. Core if you struggle with weight maintenance. He can take your lifestyle and medical history into account when recommending a possible aesthetic procedure.
