How Do I Prepare for Gynecomastia Surgery?

Prior to male breast reduction surgery, Dr. Core and his staff provide you with detailed pre-op instructions to ensure you are prepared for your procedure.

We also require you to schedule a consultation with Dr. Core to discuss your condition and your desired outcome, as well as to allow him to evaluate your chest to determine if gynecomastia surgery is the best option.

What is Involved with My Gynecomastia Surgery?

Male breast reduction surgery is typically an outpatient procedure and takes about two hours.

During your gynecomastia surgery, excess fat and glandular tissue are removed from the chest area via liposuction and the glandular tissue will be surgically excised through a small incision at the lower border of the areola. If the breasts are disproportionately large, excess skin may also be removed. Patients will be kept comfortable with local anesthesia.

What to Expect After Gynecomastia Surgery

There is usually some swelling and discomfort along with bruising immediately following gynecomastia surgery. A compression garment is provided for you to wear for about two weeks. It minimizes swelling and provides support for the initial healing. If necessary, prescription pain medication is prescribed for discomfort.

We recommend you plan to take a week away from work post-surgery. While you can return to most daily activities after a week, we ask you to refrain from strenuous activities, such as heavy lifting and moderate to excessive exercise.

When Will I See the Results from Gynecomastia Surgery?

It takes several weeks for the swelling and bruising to diminish. As it does, the results become more visible.

How Much Does Gynecomastia Surgery Cost in Birmingham?

The cost of male breast reduction surgery varies with each patient. It depends on factors such as the extent of the procedure and whether other procedures are done at the same time. During your consultation, we can go over the costs with you as well as payment and financing options.
