Excess skin around the neck and fat pockets below the chin create a heavier appearance for some people.
Grady Core, M.D., F.A.C.S., a board-certified plastic surgeon, performs neck lifts at Core Plastic Surgery on people living in Birmingham and Mountain Brook who want a more contoured neckline.
What is a Neck Lift?
A neck lift is a facial surgery procedure that reshapes the neckline by removing pockets of fat underneath the chin and removing excess skin that gives the impression of looking heavier than they may be.
Benefits of Neck Lift
Neck lifts restore contour to the neckline and jawline as well as offer the following benefits:
- Hidden scarring
- Shorter downtime and recovery compared to other procedures
- Not as invasive as other procedures
- More options with clothing styles
Who is a Good Candidate for a Neck Lift?
Candidates for neck lifts have sagging skin and possibly pockets of fat under the chin that has not reacted to other less invasive treatments to correct these issues.
How Do I Prepare for My Neck Lift?
The first step in preparing for a neck lift is to ensure you are healthy enough for surgery. Additionally, it is necessary for you to have a consultation with Dr. Core to determine whether a neck lift or other treatment is the best option.
We also provide you with a list of pre-op instructions so that you are ready for your surgery and the first few days of recovery.
What is Involved with My Neck Lift?
Your neck lift procedure involves making incisions under the chin and possibly behind the ears. Fat deposits are reduced, followed by tightening the muscles and then the skin. The incisions are sutured, and excess skin is removed. The area is bandaged and wrapped to protect and support the skin.
The procedure takes about three hours and is usually done under local anesthesia with sedation.
What to Expect After My Neck Lift
There may be some slight swelling and bruising as well as some discomfort. You should sleep at a slight elevation to minimize any side effects.
You can expect to have the stitches taken out within a week at which time, you can return to work and light activities; however, you should avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting for a few weeks.
When Will I See the Results from My Neck Lift?
You can expect to see the results from a neck lift within a few weeks as the bruising and swelling subside. Since the incisions are made in inconspicuous areas, the scars are barely noticeable and fade over time.
How Much Does a Neck Lift Cost?
A neck lift varies in terms of cost with each patient based on their individual needs and goals along with whether they have other treatments at the same time. We review the costs with you including our payment and financing options.
