Repeat Rhinoplasty

For patients who had earlier rhinoplasty elsewhere but find the result disappointing, visiting our plastic surgery practice can feel like a fresh start. Revision rhinoplasty addresses both form and function so you can breathe comfortably and feel confident again.

Many people worry about reliving the discomfort from surgeries performed decades ago. The good news is that modern rhinoplasty techniques are far more comfortable. Packing is rarely used, and improved anesthesia plus gentle instrumentation keep bruising and swelling to a minimum.

A repeat rhinoplasty, called a secondary rhinoplasty or a revision rhinoplasty, is usually performed in an open manner. A tiny incision is made in the skin bridge underneath the nose and the surgeon removes the soft tissue from the underlying bony and cartilage tissue. Then the skin is moved upward so the surgeon can see the entire framework of the nose. This allows the surgeon to have extremely precise control over the shape of the nose.

Once the adjustments are complete, the foundation of the nose is rebuilt with cartilage. Dr. Core often uses cartilage from the septum or ear, or when necessary, a small rib graft. He also incorporates absorbable PDS plates when additional support is needed, allowing your own cartilage to grow over the framework as it heals.

If you have been living with a nose that still feels unfinished, revision rhinoplasty can restore proportion and ease of breathing. Schedule a consultation to review your options with Dr. Core.
